Italian food recipes date back to the days of the Romans. Many of their recipes have been around for two thousand years. During the end of the Roman Empire Italian food recipes were divided by regions. The three regions of Italian food were the North, Central and Southern regions of Italy.

Pizza was even banned for a while by royalty. However, it eventually became popular even amongst the wealthy. We have Queen Margherita of Italy to thank for that. She was once given a pizza by the commoners, it had the colors of the Italian flag, and she loved it. They even named the pizza after her, Pizza Margherita. Thanks again to Margherita; it still is one of the most popular pizzas to this date.

In the United States alone we sell over three billion pizzas per year. That is a lot of pizza consumption. Every sporting event, fashion mall, and amusement park usually features a pizza stand. Have you ever met a kid that does not like pizza!

There are a variety of pizzaís such as: pizza Napolitano, pizza Margherita, pizza Romano, pizza Lazio, pizza Viennese, pizza supreme just to name a few. They all can be made in thin style, traditional style, or pan pizza. And, now even pizza rolls!

Italian dishes are fairly simple to prepare, itís all a matter of practice. At the beginning you can buy the pre-made pasta sauces that are available in all grocery stores. However, once you have mastered some cooking techniques you can make your own sauces from scratch.

This is where you really start accentuating your meals with your own flavors. Any good Italian restaurant guards its sauce secrets. You might go to an Italian restaurant and they might brag about Mamaís sauce that has been in the family for generations. So, every once in awhile make it Italian night at your dinner table. Your family will love it. Have the whole family participate in the preparation of the meal. I guarantee they will want to make it Italian night more than just once a week.
