Vegan follows a strict diet. They avoid foods that contain animal products which can be very difficult since there are so many different types of food that contains animal products that are unknown to individuals, these are some of the foods for a Vegan to watch out for. Here are some foods that have animal-based ingredients so that vegan followers can avoid them and ensure that they follow strict vegan diet.

Biscuits are first on the list. These days, many manufacturers produce biscuits that use animal fats, watch out for this. To be certain, check the ingredients and look for vegetable fats and oils used in place of animal fats. You can also check a natural health store to find biscuits that meet your needs.

Cheese as we all know is a dairy product and should be avoided. It is not only a dairy product, but it also contains an ingredient rennet, which is actually an enzyme that is taken from the stomach of calves. Despite this, there have been created vegan-friendly cheese substitutes for vegans to follow their diets.  However, if  you can find unpasteurized or raw milk cheese, I usually include this in my diet at times.  Soy and rice cheese is a good substitute, be careful with the soy for women as it can effect hormonal balance.

To avoid eating meat, french fries or onion rings are commonly ordered in fast food restaurants. However, some fast food restaurants use tallow for frying, which is the fat of animals. You may end up trying a salad instead.  It is important that you get your protein through legumes, beans etc..

Candies should also be avoided when following a strict vegan diet. This includes marshmallows, jelly beans, and other types of candies that contain gelatin. Gelatin is the primary ingredient in jell-o and it is made from boiling animal skins, bones, and tissues which makes it a definite ingredient to avoid in a vegan diet.

Other foods for a Vegan to watch out for is sauces that you eat. Like Worcestershire sauce, its ingredients are anchovy based. Clothing made from animals are also avoided by vegans which means leather (common textile used in shoes and clothing) and wool is definitely out.

Shifting to a vegan diet is hard, heavy research is needed to ensure that you follow the lifestyle you chose to the best of your abilities. You are only responsible for yourself and not for others, so don’t let them influence you on how you should behave when it comes to the lifestyle. It only takes hard work and effort to live as a vegan without it being an impediment to your way of life. Research the ingredients used in modern food processing so that you would know which foods to avoid and which are safe.
