Take a look at any picnic table in the park during the summer and you will no doubt see a plate of delicious deviled eggs. They are one of the most popular finger food appetizers for informal
gatherings like family reunions or barbecues mainly due to their simple flavor and easy preparation.
But they also have their place at more elegant events as well. With a few simple additions and a slight change to their common presentation, these tasty treats can be easily transformed into gourmet deviled eggs.
Traditional Deviled Eggs
The most traditional way to prepare deviled eggs is to slice a peeled, hard boiled egg in half from the narrow tip to the base creating two even pieces. Then you simply pop out the yolk, mix it with some mayonnaise, salt and pepper and spread the creamy mixture back into the hollow portion of the egg.
If you want to take your deviled eggs to the next level without straying too far from the traditional taste and preparation, the egg yolks can be dressed up a little by adding pickle relish and a dash of paprika over top. But I wouldn’t call these gourmet deviled eggs just yet!
Gourmet Deviled Eggs
There are two ways to transform the simple deviled egg into a gourmet appetizer. The first is to take the flavor from ordinary to extraordinary with the addition of extra flavors.
Try New Flavors
Try adding freshly made pesto, pureed in your Cuisinart Food Processor, to the yolks and topping them with a sprinkling of grated Parmesan cheese. Or go with a Southwestern flavor by adding taco seasoning and sour cream to your deviled egg recipe and top with a drizzle of hot sauce. For a sophisticated event, a deviled egg made with creamy cucumber and dill is always a hit.
Preparation & Presentation
The second way to give your eggs a more sophisticated style is to present them in a more elegant manner. Remember, people eat with their eyes first so if your eggs look amazing people will assume they taste amazing too. Use drizzles, toppings and garnishes like julienned carrot sticks, radish curls or sprigs of mint to give your eggs gourmet appeal.
Yet another way to be sure your eggs are the stand out appetizer at any event is to switch up the usual method of preparation. Rather than slicing the cooked egg in half from the narrow end to the base, simply cut off the tip of the egg about an inch from the top. This will leave you with a single, but larger, appetizer.
Mix up your desired filling and pipe it back into the hallowed egg using a pastry bag fitted with any style tip. If you don’t have a pastry bag, don’t worry. Simply place your filling in a zippered plastic sandwich bag and snip off the corner. The result will be a unique and scrumptious deviled egg.
By making simple changes to the flavor, preparation and presentation of your deviled eggs, you can take this comforting appetizer to the epitome of gourmet goodness.

can you smoke ribs the night before, refrigerate, and finish cooking the next day?
Hello Adela,
Yes, you can. In fact you should finish the ribs in the over. Just remember that the smoke is going to be stronger over night. I would use fruit woods such as apple or cherry, which home depot sells in small packs.
